It
is with great pleasure that we can announce that our very own home on the World
Wide Web has won its first award, and what an award to start with – CAMRA
Website of the Year 2004!
During the latter half of 2003, 24 judges volunteered their time to review and
comment on all 126 CAMRA Branch websites throughout the UK. Once all of the
sites were rated, the top 5 were rated by a second panel of judges and the
winners were announced in Southport at CAMRA’s AGM and Members’ Weekend.
Brett Laniosh, Chairman of the Internet Task Group said “This is the fourth year
that the Branch website of the year award has been made and the award continues
to mature and improve. The standard of sites is considerably higher this year,
which is a testament to the present system.
This year's most improved site goes to Cardiff branch,
www.cardiffcamra.org.uk - a bright, attractive and easy to navigate site
that is going from strength to strength.
This year's “Website of the Year” goes to a site that is both easy to use and
comprehensive, it is kept up to date and is brimming with good local content. It
goes to Chesterfield branch.
Branch Webmaster, Alun Waterhouse accepted the award at the May Branch meeting
and said “To say that I am overwhelmed with the accolade of "Website of the
Year" would be an absolute understatement as it has really been a great pleasure
to update and maintain the site which I took over from our previous webmaster
only last March. To be honest, at that point it was a really good site anyway,
but I took on board the comments that were given to me from last year’s judges
and I have improved several aspects of the site”.
“Our main changes have been to the content – I felt that the website, as well as
being current, should be an archive of our excellent (and much underrated)
newsletter “InnSpire”. So I trawled all the back copies and plucked out items
that I thought would be of interest in years to come - and this has become the
“InnSpire Archive” – which seems to be of great interest to our visitors from
the UK and beyond. Therefore this award is really for the whole "InnSpire Team"
as without them I wouldn’t have anything to put on the website!”
Following on from our success, the website was given a second accolade only a
few days later…
Peak 107’s Becky Measures reviewed the site on her “Website of the Day”
slot on Friday 30th May and said that “It’s obvious that Alun has had a lot to
do with this website. It’s a brilliant site that celebrates the best of our
local pubs… Mild is the flavour of the month this month so they tell you where
to get the best pint of Mild.”
