  • Thornbridge Hall is situated just north of the picturesque village of Ashford in the Water in the heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park.

  • The present building dates from 1859, although the site of the Hall dates from much earlier. It was rebuilt by Frederick Craven in a Jacobean style.

  • The “Baby Brewery” is housed in one of the former derelict out-buildings in the grounds of the Hall.

  • The equipment in the brewery is a combination of new and old, the old being kit adapted from the former Malton Brewery.

  • The brewery bar is situated in an underground area built in the remains of a former air-raid shelter.

  • The brewery is jointly owned by Jim Harrison [owner of Thornbridge Hall] and Dave Wickett [of Kelham Island brewery fame].

Update
The brewery is now focussed on brewing its own brand beers, with only occasional contracts for Kelham Island.  Two full time brewers, Martin and Stefano are assisted a couple of times per week by the highly experienced consultant brewer Dave Corby.

Foxwood (3.5% ABV)

It is often said that you only get out what you put in and so we were confident that by using only the best of hops (the noble Czech “Saaz” - a key ingredient in many of the world’s best Pilsners) we would get a beer of distinction. Despite its relatively low strength, which makes this a great “quaffing” ale the tawny coloured Foxwood is full bodied with a breadth of fruit flavours – apples and citrus. It has a long, bitter finish and a little something different – our secret ingredient – any guesses?

Lord Marples (4.0% ABV)

Named after the aspiring Marples of Thornbridge Hall, this classic British Bitter has all of the nobleness and elegance you could wish for. Using a Dark Crystal Malt and Fuggles Hops we have managed to produce a wonderful beer with an astounding sweet attack. Tastes of honey and caramel, a gorgeous dark golden hue of colour and, although you can experience a surprising smoothness, watch out for a long bitter finish that bites through just when you want it.

Blackthorn Ale (4.4% ABV)

Using Pale Rye and Marris Otter Malt together with Pioneer Hops, this fabulous combination produces a beautiful light golden ale with wonderful grapefruit and lemon aromas. This fruity brew benefits from an excellent medium body and a biting bitterness to the finish.

Jaipur IPA (5.9%ABV)

This wonderful India Pale Ale has a beautiful light golden appearance like a piece of honeycomb. On the nose, sweet citrus notes prevail reminiscent of candied lemon peel and combine deliciously with hints of sun drenched tropical fruits. To taste, the immediate impression is soft and smooth but this rapidly builds around the mouth to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated of honey. This hoppiness slowly converts into a powerful but pleasant, enduring, bitter finish, which leaves you gasping for more.

Brock (4.1% ABV)

A velvety dark, exceptionally smooth and creamy stout. With soft treacle flavours and a full body. Not as strong as some traditional stouts, but lacking nothing of their taste
Bohemia (5.6% ABV)
A premium cask lager

This is a premium strength Lager brewed in the style of a Bohemian Czech Beer.

It has a beautiful, crystal gold colour which comes from the Vienna Malts, the wonderful fruity nose has sweet, flowery undertones and a bready almost creamy aroma reminiscent of Champagne.

Like most Bohemian style beers, the taste is vinous , dry, somewhat sharp; instead of the malt taste, the bitter taste of the hops predominates and leaves it with a wonderful, crisp finish.

The beers can be sampled in outlets such as The Quiet Woman at Earl Sterndale, The Bulls Head at Moneyash, Monsal Head Hotel, Cock and Pullet at Sheldon and other venues including possibly The Derby Tup on Whittington Moor.
