Birth of a Brewery (Part 4)
A pictorial record of the first brew of Bakewell Best Bitter, Monday February 7th 2005.

Boiling completed, the wort is despatched from the brew house via the efficient paraflow

into the Fermenting Vessels (FVs) in the next room

A lovely golden brown puddle of wort!

Is the gravity right?

A little more liquor can be taken from a hop sparge, by flooding the hop bed in the copper with warm water in the underback.

Now that the gravity is correct, the yeast can be pitched.

That’s it for the brewing day, but there’s plenty more to do for this brew before it gets drunk! In the next room, the conditioning tanks are still being commissioned,

and the casks need to be washed and prepared before we will see this beer on the bar.
