Birth of a Brewery  (Part 1)
A pictorial record of the first brew of Bakewell Best Bitter, Monday February 7th 2005.

The outside of the brewery and the courtyard are not completed yet,

But on entering the far door behind the white van we find evidence of the culprit of the long delays!  This box in the roof houses the nest of the owls that were raising chicks when Peak Ales wanted to start renovating the building.

Without further ado, we pop next door where Robert Evans the brewer, has fired up the steam generating boiler.

The Boiler is set to heat the HLT (hot liquor tank),

Meanwhile the Pale and Crystal malts are carefully weighed out, along with water treatment for the soft Peak water.

Dave Smith, the consultant arrives and the water is up to temperature.

Load up the grist case with the prepared bags of malt,

Couple up the water to the hydrator at the exit to the grist case,
