Special contribution to
branch campaigning Award 2005
The Blue Bell - Bolsover
For the second year running
Chesterfield & District CAMRA members have had the pleasure in presenting
our Award for Special Campaigning to the Blue Bell at Bolsover, which speaks
volumes, although several reasons spring to mind:
•
The Blue Bell serves excellent Real Ale and offers a good choice of beers.
That alone would be reason enough to merit praise.
• The landlord and landlady Kev and Pam Maidens (both of whom are CAMRA
members), Angela, Antony and their team put on regular Beer Festivals.
• It’s a popular and friendly community pub which supports local charities
and is a focal point for locals.
• The pub is a supporter of CAMRA campaigns. This year Kev was an
enthusiastic supporter of CAMRA’s Mild Month promotion - we all had a great
time on the town’s ‘Fun Run’ and at his May Beer Festival where we had FIVE
Milds to sample.
I personally thought that this was where the Blue Bell had the edge on the
other deserving nominees for this award. Several branch members popped along
on a very sunny Sunday afternoon to present the Certificate to an
unsurprisingly happy Kev (pictured left with Branch Chairman Nigel Mower). A
couple of pints - asking Kev for some ‘Slap & Tickle’ was an event in
itself! - and a bit of sunbathing later and we had to agree that
Chesterfield Branch members were fine judges of pubs!
