Autumn Pub of the Season 2004
The George and Dragon - Old Brampton.
Landlady Karen Lang-Norris might have been
only been ‘at the helm’ of the George and Dragon at Old Brampton for eight
months but one and a half year’s experience of bar work prior to this with
working at the Derby Tup on Whittington Moor must have contributed to her
understanding of how to serve a perfect pint.
Local CAMRA members may well have taken this into account when voting
recently for the Chesterfield branch Autumn Pub of the Season when the
George and Dragon was certainly up against some stiff competition with the
likes of the Market in Chesterfield, the Red Lion at Whittington Moor and
the Fox & Goose at Wigley, all of which serve good quality real ale, an
important factor when choosing a worthy winner for this award.
Karen had only been running the pub for a few months when she ran a
successful first beer festival back in July, I’m sure her regular pub goers
and visitors alike will be looking forward to the next one in November.
Soon after the voting for the award many branch members joined a delighted
landlady in an evening of celebration with fine real ale and an excellent
buffet. Branch chairman Nigel Mower is seen presenting Karen’s Autumn Pub of
the Season certificate.
